Coalville U12’s 0 v Ilkeston U12’s 30
Ilkeston travelled to Coalville to face two sides this team have never played before and therefore unsure what to expect on a very wet and windy morning.
The inclement weather failed to dampen Ilkeston’s enthusiasm however and they continued their early season form.
Early in the first half a powerful break from Olly Davidson set up a ruck from which Laurence Pilkington drove over for the first of his three tries. The Ilkeston scrum of Brookes, Freeman, Pilkington, Sloan, Billingham and Blount were secure on their own ball throughout and taking 5 scrums against the head, gave Harry Taylor an excellent platform to release the backs at will.
Alex Marzano marked his return from injury with his first in a brace of tries coming from turn-over ball, Davidson and Elder key in the build up before Westrick showed devastating pace to out-sprint the Coalville defence from deep in his own half.
Marriott, growing in skill and confidence, showed good pace on the left wing, only to be denied by a late cover tackle from the Coalville full back.
Ilkeston continued their efforts in the second half and secured the win through a further two tries from Pilkington, and one from Marzano before Pearson replaced the impressive Brookes toward the close.
Overall an excellent display from the whole team
