U12's - West Bridgford find Overdrive whilst Elks select Reverse

Match Report 6th March 2011

Due to the late cancellation of Derby’s visit to the Stute Ilkeston were looking a further training session in its place however local team West Bridgford agreed to stand in.

In previous meeting today’s opponents had always held the upper hand and immediately from the kick off Bridgford showed the young Elks that they were going to have a long day!! The away side caught their own kick off and scored a converted try between the posts whilst the Ilkeston players rubbed their eyes from their sleepiness. The next couple of minutes Ilkeston finally awoke and through a darting run the forwards released the ball for Cameron Greenfield to score after twisting through poor tackles. Converted by Isaac Smith. The final 5 minutes saw Bridgford again take the lead, then just before the break Aidan Norris sprinted of in his charismatic way to break three tackles and score again converted by Smith.

Second session Ilkeston maintained their structure and matched Bridgford and even hooker Felix Rasbusin’s takes against the head in the scrums didn’t stop Bridgford scored two unanswered converted tries. Just before the break quick ball down the Ilkeston back’s let winger Gregor McIntosh to score in the corner converted by Joseph Doughty.
2nd break score Ilkeston 21 West Bridgford 28.

Ilkeston rang the changes for the final two sessions allowing all the squad players an opportunity to impress the coaches, however these changes actually affected the stability of the Ilkeston team and with West Bridgford bringing all of their key players back onto the pitch Ilkeston were unable to match their opposite players. The result was distorted as Bridgford scored a further seven tries which they converted five.
Final score Ilkeston 21 West Bridgford 73.

The score does not reflect the true performance of Ilkeston’s players today as they for the first thirty minutes matched West Bridgford however with the ever expanding squad it is important for all players to contribute and develop their skills.
