U11's come back in second half to earn deserved victory away to Derby.

Sunday 31st October 2010 - Squad present: Forwards - Fraser Douglas, George Beardsley, Liam Soar, Sam Hines, Warwick Waudby. Backs – Charlie Clarke, Ellis Thomas, Chris Goodall, Aneurin Lings, Jack (“Ed”) Mason Barton, Ben Clements and Jack Marshall.
The squad named above represented us in both this fixture and the previous Sunday against Bakewell (unfortunately losing out in that game 26-19 – 2 tries for George, 1 for Charlie + 2 conversions) – whereas in the previous match we flew off the blocks scoring 2 quick tries, we eventually tired but in this match against Derby it was finely contested with no quarter given over the whole period of the game.
From the very outset of this match the Elks looked up for this and to a man it was a brilliant team effort – Derby though started off just slightly the stronger team and went over with a good try, which was duly converted. Leading up to half time Elks were getting much more of the ball and consequently possession, but time and time again were stopped by good Derby defensive work just short of the home line. Elks at last showed good shape throughout the team and the forwards were giving good support to each other with fine individual runs by George and Warwick, with Liam, Sam and Fraser driving over the rucks, but it was really nip and tuck going up to the half time whistle. Half time Derby 7 Elks 0
Elks came storming out in the second half with the backs starting to run and pass, opening up the Derby defence on numerous occasions – after some more good forward play, George went on another of his trademark runs – players hanging off him like limpets, and went over to touch down – unfortunately the conversion hit the bar but some fine rugby was being played by us at this stage, and when we didn’t have the ball – good tackling was very evident.
Some fine mazy runs by Charlie, Jack M & Chris gained good ground for their team – Aneurin, Ben, Ellis and Jack (“Ed”) were also in the thick of the action throughout. After another good bout of possession, the inevitable happened Derby were being pressed back and back and George punished them with another try – duly converted by Charlie to take us into the lead for the very first time in the match at 12-7. By this stage Elks were well in control of the game, and it was good to see the whole team involved, keeping shape and stamina, making sure if Derby did break, they were well tackled.
Another midfield break by George took him over the line for his “hat-trick”, converted by Charlie to take us into a 19-7 lead, which we held until the very final play of the match – when Derby went over for a consolation try.
An enjoyable game, by two well matched sides – man of the match went to Stormin’ George Beardsley.
