The U11's give a good performance which bodes well for the forthcoming season.

Sunday 17th October 2010
Elks 19 Sutton-in-Ashfield 40
Referee Mick Green
Squad present: Aneurin Lings, Ben Clements, Charlie Clarke, Christopher Goodall , Ellis Thomas, George Beardsley, Jack Marshall, Jack (“Ed”) Mason Barton, James Semken, Liam Soar , Michael Hayes, Sam Hines,Warwick Waudby.
Elks very first 12-a-side game, was enjoyed by players and spectators alike, on a gloriously sunny morning down at the Stute – we had 13 turn up and Ashfield 11, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Ellis for volunteering both himself and Charlie (who were sharing scrum half duties for the day) they did a half each for the opposition – making it a 12-a-side game on the midi pitch. Charlie even running in a try for Ashfield in the second half – so on our players points scored I marked it 24 – 35!
Both sides started strongly, Ashfield running in the first try and converting (it was agreed by both sides to take any conversions in front of the sticks – which added to the atmosphere enormously) – Elks then went on a great forward run led by George, who crashed over - with the conversion just missing. Ashfield ran in their second try and converted, but Elks backs started to take a grip of the game and Chris ran over for our second try of the match, this time with a successful conversion.
Elks forwards (Liam, George, Sam, Michael and James) were pressing deeper into Ashfield’s half now, the backs also were getting a good grip of the game and we deservingly went into the lead, with another fine run by Chris ending in a try, Charlie put over his 2nd conversion of the day. Some fine running and tackling by our backs – Aneurin, Ben, “Ed”, Warwick and an impressive display at full back by Jack, seemed to have turned the match in Ilkeston’s favour with less than a minute to go to half time we were leading 19-14. Ashfield had a couple of strong runners, and their winger went over with a fantastic try – touching down in the corner, after it was converted the whistle went for half time 19 – 21 – a great first half for both sides.
After turning round at half time, Elks were facing the sun and although the half started promisingly with Ellis getting good ball from our scrums, and George nearly powering over for another try, Ashfield took control and finished the stronger side, as we wilted a little in the sun - but nothing should be taken away from our lads effort – with a bit more support for the ball carrier in the future, things will definitely get better for our side, who always get stronger as the season progresses – well done lads!
Thanks must also go out to both sets of supporters and coaches – and a special thanks to Mick Green for doing a smashing job as ref.
