upping our game and one eye on next season

Today saw another good turn out for U9 training. With the newest member of the coaching team, big Jim Walker aka Top tackler Josh's Dad, we started with a really good warm up routine learned from his recent "Rugby Ready" training course. We did our game of pass and moving after that which is always fun.This got the boys ready to move onto some specific passing drills. Building in a competitive element, we ran a passing race for teams of 5. Designed to encourage running and passing in full flow, it also builds some pressure into ball handling which resulted in lots of knock ons. There were loads of forward passes too out of eagerness for their team to score the try first !!! Because they adapted so well to this exercise we introduced another rule where the 1st passer had to run an overlap around his team mates to take the last pass and score. Well done for how well they all coped with this. We then went into a contact Game with rules of passes to encourage throwing the ball around a bit more. After that the usual game of bulldog ensued. "Man of Training" went to Tom Grimwood for his timing and commitment in his tackling. Well done to all the boys as the conditions were very wet on field. We did have a suspected minor concussion issue which we are managing with the parent. see you all for Mansfield next week.
