Ilkeston Elks Under 8's v Matlock Umder 8's

Matlock Mothers Day Magic
This week saw the mighty Under 8's make the trip to Matlock for a very even fixture. Two games saw a strong performance from two sides that both like to run with the ball and exploit whatever space is presented to them! It was great to see some of the players trying to move the ball a bit more and an improvement in support and positional play was clearly evident! Both teams split into two sides and all played each other and the end result was four games of end to end rugby which was pretty much try for try. Ilkeston's passing was particularly impressive at times as was the commitment to get back and defend. Special mentions to Zac who seemed to be everywhere taking tags, Logan who had an excellent performance having missed a few weeks due to his BMX commitments (third in the national championships is fairly impressive!!!) Jude who when he switches on continues to improve and be more dominant week on week, Imogen for a superb piece of play that saw her charge onto a pass and cut through the defence to score before they knew what was happening and Theo for yet again putting out an impressive all round performance! Players player was selected by Oliver today for the core value of discipline and he chose Logan for being disciplined with the officials (of course, we expect nothing less!) and for being disciplined in his approach to the game, getting back onside quickly and getting ready to start again quickly after scoring or concedeing. Player of the day went to Oliver who, as well as selecting a worthy players player and presenting the trophy so eloquently, had a superb game with some excellent passing, lovely side stepping, a strong defensive performance and an excellent work rate throughout! Looking forward to welcoming Matlock back to Ilkeston next week for our festival!
