Today we welcomed Keyworth to the Stute for the return fixture. At the previous encounter we discovered that the Keyworth players brought out an amazing level of rugby from our U7s and today promised to be a great game. With 2 pitches set up we set to work. With an extra player we had rolling subs which we rolled across both pitches which meant that both our teams were constantly changing the feel of them and the skills involved. It worked really well and I think more players were more active for longer, which given that breeze was probably for the best.

Some great running, tagging, support play, rugby in general was there to be seen and we weren’t disappointed by the level the whole standard from both teams. I am, as always, really impressed with our young people and how they go from strength to strength in their play and support of each other. Some real team players out there. The fries were coming in thick and fast from both teams and the ability capitalise on little mistakes has become a feature of a number of our players who are learning to ‘play the whistle’ brilliantly and understanding of those margins is coming on well. A great team has been built and I think we have a bright future together now that some of those notions around who can I pass to are fading into the past.

So this week my player of the week is a player who always has a smile on her face. I’ve seen them face plant to the point that every adult nearby gasped and held their breath until she got up smiling again (with plenty of grass in her teeth). So for her ongoing team spirit, her ongoing joy in our game and for how much she tries every match. My player of the week and take of the coveted green laces is.....Ilsa!!!
