Afternoon everyone, we’ve had some very sad news of the passing of one of our past players Martyn Jones at 67 years old.

Martyn played at Prop for Ilkeston RUFC from the late 70’s until the mid 90’s, often playing alongside his brothers Robyn and Kevin, a formidable triumvirate both on the field and in a sing song in the Bar.
Martyn wasn’t your normal 18st, 5’10’’ prop, he was 14.5st and 6’1’’, strong as an Ox and incredibly fit.
He maintained his fitness through cycling after retiring from playing and even took on the Challenge of detouring on a John O’Groats to Lands End trip to take on the hills of the Brecon Beacons.
Martyn leaves wife Julie and children Libby, Owen and Evan and grand children Jacob and Edward.
His love of Wales and Rugby was only surpassed by his hobbies of Cycling, Fishing, Motorhome travelling and walks with his beloved dogs Rufus and Winston.
A quiet, selfless family man, summed up by him donating his organs.
Robyn and Kevin described him as the Best of Us!
He joins exclusive front row company up there and delivers significant ‘selection problems’ for whoever is in charge.
