Try fest for first game

The Elks travelled to Ashby for the first meeting between the teams, after such a great game we can hopefully make it a regular fixture.
The Elks began the game much brighter and after a break by Bily & Jason the ball was kicked ahead by Sean and recycled for Nathan to score.
Straight from the restart John made a great break, drew the defender and passed for Nathan to score, converted by Adam making the score 0-12 after 6 minutes.
Ashby then came back and a nice move from a scrum created space in midfield and they scored under the posts to make it 7-12
Elks then attacked again only to be halted by a knock on, the Elks took the ball against the head and went blind, this was recycled quickly and fed to Max who crashed over. 7-17
The Elks continued to attack and went through 6 phases with some great rucking and finally Josh crashed over. 7-22
Ashby came back strongly and a good attack was foiled by a great turnover from Max.
Ashby then had their best period of the first half and some good attacks combined with some ill discipline from the Elks resulted in 2 tries from Ashby both well converted to make the score 21-22 at half time.
Ashby started the second half much better and after the Elks were penalised for offside Ashby kicked to touch, caught the line out and eventually forced their way over to take the lead 26-22
The Elks came back again and ashby were penalised at the ruck, this was kicked to touch and the ball was won and fed down the line, after some great recycling James ran through to score. 26-27
Ashby then came back strongly and from a line out fed the ball out and ran around the defence to score in the right corner.31-27
Ashby continued to attack and after a penalty they recycled the ball well to score, and also convert.38-27
At this stage with only 10 minutes left things looked bleak for the Elks, but some great character and courage changed the game.
A great move involving Max, Billy and James put Nathan away to complete his hat trick.38-32
The kick off was well caught by George who set off on a great run, the elks ended up with a scrum and from a lovely blind side move involving Max and Billy the ball was recycled for Jason to crash over.38-37
Another good catch from George put the Elks on the attack again and Nathan made a superb run down the left but was well tackled short of the line, the ball was quickly recycled and Billy broke down the blind and forced his way over to score.38-42
Ashby came back again but some great defence kept them out. Final score 38-42
This was a great game of rugby, well played by both teams.
The whole squad can be proud of their efforts, with everyone making contributions to the team effort.
Unfortunately Adam broke his thumb and Rhys broke his nose in the warm up,but Seans wrist injury is not too bad, again well done to all the lads
See you all at training, Stute 6.00 thursday
