Harsh Reality Check!

Following last weeks encouraging display we were hopeful of a similar performance, unfortunately the team never really got going.
Scunthorpe were much more agressive at the breakdown and combined with some unusually poor passing the Elks were on the back foot for most of the first 20 mins.
Scunthorpe ran in 3 tries in 17 mins and although they played some nice rugby the Elks were guilty of some poor tackling.
The good rucking from last week was missing as the forwards went in on their own and not as a pack.
The Elks had some pressure and territory but could not turn any into points, Scunthorpe scored a 4th try on 31 mins and the half time score was 0-24
With Scunthorpe playing downhill in the second half it looked like a heavy defeat could be on the cards, but fair play to the lads they showed a bit more fight than the first half and showed glimpses of what they can play like, unfortunately Scunthorpes defence held firm and denied Elks any real scoring chances.
Scunthorpes last try was scored on 46 mins and some good defence kept them from scoring again, final score 0-29.
Although a disappointing result there were some lads missing through injury and some playing out of position. This does not however excuse some of the poor tackling and passing. The lads showed far too much respect to Scunthorpe and allowed them to dominate from the off.
Next weeks game against Ashfield has been called off due to injuries and players being away.
Training at the Stute 6.00 on Thursday, we need everyone there to put in the hard work required to get some consistency in the performances.
