Despite all the weather, we welcomed Mansfield RUFC to The Stute this week. Eight hardy rugby players from the north and 10 from the mighty Elks braved the cold. 6-a-side was still possible despite the reduced sized pitch.

Great attacking and defensive rugby from both sides. Turnovers happened during the 7 tackle rule which is a credit to the organisation of both teams. This was certainly one of the most well-organised teams I've seen play this year.

The weather, coupled with the appearance of the new substitute friendly jackets, meant that several children seemed to be happier on the side lines than actually playing. Nearly everyone was wearing gloves.....

I haven't been able to see The Elks play for several weeks, and it is a credit to the parents, and the whole coaching team, to see how well they have developed since half-term. They are certainly coming together as a team.

Too many stars to mention - Ben with his strong running and try-scoring; Finley with his 'never take a step backwards' attitude in defence; Connor for coming out and having a go despite illness; Freddie, Fraser and Sam with their nimble feet and speed.

Player of the day - The parents for their hard work in the kitchen. A big thank you from the club.

Next week is the U8s Christmas party so there is no training, we return against Moderns on the first Sunday in January.
