Ruthless display dispatches Old Laurentians

From the opening minutes it was obvious how one sided the game would be, however you can only beat what’s in front of you and Elks were ruthless in playing hard running rugby with plenty of support players.

Elks scored 7 tries in the first half through Greg Taylor (3) Tom Pottinger, Steve Quinn, Jono Falls & Steve Mahoney, 5 of these were converted by Falls to make it 45-0 at half time.

Elks used the bench during the game and gave match time to Joel Haigh who slotted in at Scrum Half and also Ellis Hallam & Gordon Pringle from the Colts.

The second half continued in the same vein as the Elks dominated territory and possession scoring a further 11 tries through Pottinger (2) Joel Haigh (3) Jake Lamb (2) Marc Moore, Nathan Lyons, Joe Marsden and Dan Taylor, 8 of these were converted by Jono Falls to leave the final score at 116-0

Sympathy was felt for OLs who face a long, tough season, we wish them all the best for the future. As mentioned previously you can only beat the opposition on the pitch and Elks worked hard to keep their structure as play became fragmented, 18 tries in a game is a great effort and picking a Man of the Match was difficult, it had to go to one of the hat trick scorers and Tom Pottinger got the nod ahead of Greg and Joel.

Next week sees a trip to local rivals Paviors and we look forward to a great time on and off the field, this will be an excellent warm up to the England v Wales game shown live at the Stute 8PM kick off. Let’s hope all the injured Welsh players make a speedy return for the Australia game.
