Elks hosted struggling Spalding and showed little mercy as they ran in 13 tries in an 83-0 victory.

Elks got off to a flyer down the hill creating an overlap for Tom Pottinger to finish off, Jono Fall with the extras , making it 7-0 after 1 min.

Spalding were penalised at the next Elks attack and Jake Lamb kicked to the corner, the line out was lost but Adam Corcoran stole the ball back and crashed over, extras missed making it 12-0 after 8 mins.

Spalding had their first attack from a line out in the Elks 22 but strong defence turned the ball over and Elks cleared to half way. Elks were all over Spalding and quickly ran in two more tries through Jacob Heath and Kartar Soar, one was converted making it 24-0 after only 18 mins.

Even when Spalding had the ball the Elks defence was too strong and halted any progress, from one turnover the ball was taken blind and Falls was in acres of space and had a clear run in to score, he missed with the conversion making it 29-0 after 26 mins.

Chris Tipton was leading the charge with the forwards and making good ground on many occasions, a knock on halted the next Elks attack but from the scrum Spalding kicked poorly and Greg Taylor launched a counter attack, he fed brother Dan Taylor who made further ground before feeding Pottinger to score on the left, Falls landed a difficult conversion making it 36-0 after 32 mins.

Elks were soon on the attack but penalised for holding on, again Spalding kicked poorly and Heath counter attacked, he fed D Taylor who made it to the 22 before feeding G Taylor to run in the score, Falls with the extras making it 43-0 after 38 mins which remained the score until half time.

Jake Smithurst and Tom Hicks replaced Dan Rollins & Matt Watkins.

Although Spalding now had the slope advantage it was still all Elks as they showed no mercy and attacked at will, Pottinger was next to score on 50 mins completing his hat trick, and with Falls adding the extras it was a point a minute at 50-0.

Straight from the kick off the Elks came again with the whole back line involved in a flowing move with Heath scoring under the posts, Falls with the extras 57-0 after 53 mins. This brought about the long awaited return of Joel Haigh who had been out injured for several months, he replaced Falls on 54 mins.

Elks were soon on the attack with Tipton again carrying strong, the ball was recycled and moved left, Tipton was on hand again and picked up and drove over on 62 mins, Haigh took over the kicking duties and duly obliged making it 64-0.

Haigh was soon involved making a darting break but the ball was knocked on soon after, Spalding tried to counter but a long pass was intercepted by G Taylor who sprinted clear to score on 71 mins, Haigh with the extras making it 71-0.

Still the Elks were hungry and following a Spalding line out pressured the ball and Tipton emerged and crashed over on 73 mins, extras missed making it 76-0.

From the kick off Pottinger made 30 metres before being bundled into touch, the line out was not straight and Elks had an attacking scrum, the ball was moved left and G Taylor made another break, the ball was recycled again but knocked on, play was brought back for a late tackle by Spalding and a yellow card issued for the offender.

Elks attacked again through the forwards and following several pick and drives the ball was finally driven over by Tom Hicks, Haigh completed the scoring making it 83-0 at Full Time.

Although it was a one sided game the Elks could do no more than beat what was in front of them, the backs were ruthless when given space and kept up the skill level for long periods, several players ran riot in the backs and Man of the Match goes to one of these in the shape of Tom Pottinger who probably just shaded the honours in a classy back line.

Next week sees a break before the away trip to Bedford Athletic, this is sure to be a sterner test for the Elks.
